What's up with this?
Here's the problem....
280ZX runs fine for awhile gets to temp then dies. When I pull the coil wire no spark but after a bit it'll spark up again. Seems to be up to the car how long it wants to take before I get fire from the coil again. In hot weather it'll crank like normal but no spark then eventually fire up to do the idle die routine. I'm running a Kameari dizzy and ignition and have checked/replaced relays fusible links AFM ECU ect ect and am at the point of just crushing it for scrap but have too much wrapped up in the engine after I did a rebuild 3 years ago. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. |
Sounds like your ICM is bad. (Ignition Control Module) It is located on the side of your dizzy. What year of Z, and is it an n/a or turbo?

It's an '81 and N/A and no where near stock.
I'm using the Kameari Racing dizzy and ICM which is similar to a MSD style controller. I was guessing its the ICM too but trying to see if anything else may cause the problem also. The amount that ignition system cost I really dont see where it could fail with only 1182 miles through it. But considering the effects of (A) Murphys Law -- in conjunction with-- (B) My Luck -- and just for good measure-- (C) Expired Warranty anything is possible really lol |
