Thats a very pointless question, it all depends on a lot of things from suspension to power. To ask that is like asking if you think a 280zx can out perform a ferrari in reverse in the rain. I think he has the upper hand w/ the greater power, and i'm sure his suspension is probably pretty damn good too. But then on the other hand, you have the advantage in weight, its hard to say, but I'm pretty confident in saying that the GT will smoke your ***.

When you compare Two very diff cars. you have to keep in mined of what RPS13 said. Plus the driver makes a huge impact.
In a way it's kind of like comparing a supra to a bumble bee.

I dont' know if the GT is different suspension wise than a V6, but those V6 Mustangs handle like crap even on dry pavement. My sister is a mustang fan. She has owned two V6 Mustangs. (I've driven both) My non-turbo ZX is faster than both her V6 Stangs, so the V8 if it is faster, probably isn't a whole lot faster. If you have a turbo Z then your straight line speed might be the same. I doubt his car handles well.
Is your ZX suspension old and original or do you have new struts, springs, and bushings? If its still all sloppy then you'll loose around the corners too.

I raced a Ferrari backwards in the rain once. I lost....

Bleach, a V8 Mustang is a hell of a lot faster than the V6 Mustang. The V6s are very under-powered and generally just shitty. Also, I think the GT has better suspension than the V6 but im not positive. One thing I do know is that a stock ZX will not have a chance against a newer GT, not even in the corners. If it is a modified ZXT than it may be able to take a stock GT in the straight. If you have aftermarket suspension than you will definitly out handle a stock GT in the corners.

Mustang GT's may be faster then the V6's but they're still not that fast! I kept up with an '03 with a poorly maintained Jetta 1.8T at work. I was messing around with a mechanic from the Ford shop next door. He was all kinds of upset that his modified GT couldn't pull away from me. The Jetta has only about 180hp but does have a nice flat torque curve to it.
My suggestion if you're gonna race...make sure you unload as much weight as possible. Remove spare tire, jack, heavy subs if you've got them, floor mats, rear carpet, anything in glove box or center console or rear storage compartments, and make sure your car is in good running condition. You may just have a chance. Removing weight is the ultimate cheap make your car go fast upgrade!

I know it sounds like BS, But I got the better of a guy in a Ferrari 308 about a year ago. We were at the bottom of a freeway on ramp and he was eyeballing my car with that "My car's faster than yours" look on his face. He had the inside lane advantage too. So, the light turns green, we both drop the hammer... he get's a little jump, but only stays about half a car length ahead. Unfortunatly for him, he wasn't planning ahead enough to see the slower traffic up ahead. He tried to merge into my lane, but I was too close. He had no choice but to back down and let me by. As he moved in behind me, I was full tilt and the party was over for Mr. Spaghetti. He couldn't recuperate from the disadvantage. We both got onto the freeway ***** out, but he couldn't catch me no matter how he tried. When Finally I let off so as not to get a ticket, he pulls along side of me and smiled and gave a nod of approval... in recognition of the fact that his *** was handed to him by a Z. Every dog has it's day. In a race, it's 50% car... 50% driver... and 10% luck... So what does that add up to? You gotta give 110% to beat a "Faster" car.

Rod.

I raced a Celica GT-S once with my Z, and everyone thinks it's bs, but I beat them by a few car lengths. We were driving down this street towards the freeway, and when I'd get up next to them, they'd accelerate. I'd get up next to them again, and they'd try to accelerate away again, but this time I dropped it into 3rd, and the race was on. I was suprised how easy the Z pulled away from the Celica, and I was gone by 4th gear. He finally caught up to me when I caught up with the rest of the traffic farther on down the road.

I was once in a three way race w/ two vettes, one was a C4 (84-96) that definately looked like it was modded and the other was a C5 (97-04) stock looking, well the lights turned and the C5 was gone, but I was neck and neck w/ that C4 and eventually beat him at the top end w/o either of us backing off. It is actually one of my greater races since the total disadvantage, and the unexpected outcome, and how suprisingly close we were from launch to finish.

EDIT: I was in my Z at the time....also, i'm not a vette fan, i actually had to do research to find out what model vettes they were....sorry for totally changing the subject of this thread.

Me too! well, one of those newer Celicas. I dont' know if it was a GT-S, I couldn't see the back. long straightaway, and a very long steep hill. I had him till 80mph. I had to slow way down around the corner. Speed was supposed to be 40 there. I can't take sharp corners at 80 with my slop suspension.

TRUE so true ...even if the car is faster he may be shity driver and not know when to shift ..also when running a race between two cars one being faster never race for the 1/4 mile...you should road race long runs five miles with coners ... let the faster car out front he will not run as fast as he can..he will brake wrong or come into the coner to slow.this is where you have the advantage... you can take him you just have to be a savage ...1/4 mile racing a ZX is pointless .....
THE TOP END PULL IN THESE CARS ARE AMAZING ..I KILLED

THE TIBBY
A MODED 91 GOLF
98 DODGE NEON

NONE of these cars could stay with me on this rally road... i take late night ... it has some twisty crazy coners , in the middle if no where ....we race this once and a while ..i dont like the cliff at this one spot, so i chilled out on racing there but the zx eats them alive , in the top end..i would like to race my friends AE86 but he is a sissy and wont ...hes has moded the **** out of it and talks so much **** says it will beat any thing ....i think he watches a little to much initial D ......but dont get me wrong that carolla turbo gts AE86 .... will put your head into the seat and you will not beable to pull it out inteel he luts off the gas...and it will drift corners like theres no tomarrow........

The '99 Mustang GT was a significant improvment over the previous series (96 to 98). They essentially figured out how to make useful power from the 4.6L V8 and the drivetrain.
