Trying to bring an 83 back to life
Trying to bring an 83 back to life. I’ve been solving one problem electrically after another but one thing I’m confused about the green LED on the ECU. It’s on when I put the key in the ignition then after I crank the car ( I have a no start problem )The green light will go out and will not come back on unless I shut the key completely off and try to restart it again. So I believe that means the ECU immediately stops getting power when I try to crank the car if that’s correct what would cause that?

I just got done resurrecting an 83 ZXT and had a lot of electrical gremlins and corroded connections. I'm not familiar w the green light on the ECU specifically. Here is what worked for me. As I started fixing things, other things started working all of a sudden too.
- Re-seat every plug, clean with contact cleaner if there is corrosion. If its heavy, use some sand paper.
- Check your Grounds!!! These cars have finicky grounds. I had to de-corrode all of my ground wires to get my fuel pump relays to stop going nuts clicking all over the place. Start with the negative battery cable. Check if it gets hot. My car would fire up but the negative would get really hot. It has to be really clean and really tight.
- Consider replacing the ignition module behind the key part. Its cheap ($18) and it can keep the fuel pump relay from starting and cycling the pump.
Does your fuel pump cycle? Do any relays click?
Check those grounds, I was really surprised how little it took for them to not be happy.
