trick to fueling up?

trick to fueling up?
last few months i've been having real trouble filling the last 5l or so of my car, last gallon on the other side of the pond. is there a trick? do i try aim for the little breather spout, only half hold the nozzle, or just aim for a smooth flow at the bottom of the tube
