So I was messing with my car today...

And pretty much fixed most of the problems and determined that I need a new starter.

Now here's a funny story, my little brother's like "Hey, Ray your car has Turbo badges taken off you can still read that it says Turbo though."

I'm like "huh?"

I go to the back, and I hadn't noticed it before. I thought it was just old rust with a shitty paint job covering but indeed you could see that my car originally had "Turbo" on it's back right.

This is when I just burst out laughing, no wonder they stripped my car of all it's badges and what not. My L28 is from another car, this pretty much is ironic since I dream of doing a Turbo swap.

Better pictures up tomorrow, this one's from far away but you can kind of read it. Either the last dude wanted a turbo, or my car used to be one.

It's a 79 so there was no turbo right? Maybe they just had the back door/trunk taken off another car who knows.

Disregard this thread, I'm a dumbass.

Well, good news and bad news. The good news is the problem was indeed the starter got it changed and it worked like new. ****, my electric radiator fans and whatnot actually caught me by surprise when I shut off the car since they previously has always shut off. I don't exactly live in a good neighborhood, and some dude was eyeing my car so I set it in reverse, pull up the e-brake and pop the trunk and disconnect the battery. (fans turn off)

I didn't think much of it.

Dude started looking at my car again, but I wasn't worried. My little brother was looking at it from the window. And if the ******* tried to steal it, it would take him time and I'd have enough time to react. Anyways, he was lurking around the car but didn't do anything.

I lol'd to myself and was all proud of myself for being so "witty". My mom told me to go buy some milk and I was like "**** yeah", excuse to take the Z out!"

So I head back to my car, pop the hood connect the battery, close the hood, hop into my car. Put it back in neutral before I started also released the e-brake and when I was going to start it, it sounded like the starter was ****ed up again or something.

I was like "****, I must have killed the battery or even the starter when I disconnected it". Slammed my head against the steering wheel and went to go look under the hood again.

That's when I saw smoke coming from here:

Now I realize I'm really screwed, I'm like "****, don't tell me I killed the wiring for my whole car". I figured I might as well replace all the fuses and hope that it was a blown fuse or something, but no luck. Plus all my other stuff was working like lights, radio, etc.

So yeah, once again no Z.

Not giving up on her yet, but I'm pretttttyyyyy pissed. I hope I just ****ed up the starter again or something so I can just exchange it since the bitch has warranty.

But who knows.

What do you guys think?

Have you bought a HAYNES MANUAL yet? When you buy one you instantly become less of a "n00b"

The box you have circled contains the fusable links. Pop the top & you should be able to see which wire is fried. Did you install the starter yourself? There might be some wiring issues...

Original Service Manual + Chilton's.

Doubt I had wiring issues, I was just a dumbass and pulled the positive cable off the battery while the fans were still on.

Oh you're right. I didn't notice that there was no injector cooling fan. That seems weird though that he'd turn the car off and still hear a starter grinding though.

lol, you burned your fusi's up, and careful with the F bomb, that language is for the off topic only section. i know i had this problem when my positive battery cable was crap, so make sure yours was ON all the way lol, check the connections on teh starter and maybe look into replacing the cable. next time, disconnect the negative one. lol. and replace the fried links. btw, where the hell do we get fusible links? lol.

I learned one day it is always good to remove the negative before positive in any situation. I was working on my moms car and took the positive off before the neg. Well while I was doing that I arked the wrench across the brake lines coming off the master cylinder and burned a nice big hole in it. Thus one more trip to napa.

My first thought was you put the neg on the positive post (that could cause problems), but you didn't say anything about that. It's not good disconnecting wires everytime you park too easy to screw up the reconnect. You can put a disconnect connection in the wiring harness which would cause anybody problems looking for it as usually a thief wants to do it quick. Good luck.
