Smoked the motor in my 240Z... ;(

Well, looks like I broke a ring and possibly a ring land on the #3 cylinder...

Coming around turn 9 at Laguna Seca at a high rate of speed with a too low gas tank, I starved the motor and it looks like it leaned out enough to pop #3. It's only holding 75 psi now... ;(

Oh well, here are some pics anyway:

New motor is already in the works. It'll be mildly built with head work, cam, valves, headers, intake, exhaust and running bored out SU's from ZTherapy.

Suspension is bad ***. Sticks with the exotics in the corners but gets smoked by their HP/TQ in the straight aways.

On the front straight at Laguna I was basically a rolling speed bump for the Viper's!

It's very lightly built, but very well tuned. Made 136 tq and 123 hp to the wheels on the last dyno run with an absolutely perfect AFR across the whole RPM band.

ahhh... now you need to get some 300+hp motor in there and some sick shoes to stick it down with then you can walk on the vipers on the straights

300 is pretty hard to make in an NA L series motor and have much driveability or reliability.

I'll be happy with something in the 180 rwhp 200 rwtq range.

I'm already running Hoosier's so the shoes are about as good as they can get...

Sorry to hear about your motor L-Dub, maybe now you can take the time to put the 280ZX back together and drive it to MSA.

Nice pics. i remember when you got that 240 and brought it out for the 1st time. All nice and pristine, kept by an old lady or something. Now look at it. You killed it, but with style. I wanna take a lap at laguna . . .

So, Senior Dub.

When are you gonna get that S130 back together anyway?

Let me know the next time you head on out to the tracks.

BTW. I don't know if you're interested in running with VARA. We will be at Button Willows Feb 10-11th. Lot's of awesome Z racing!

looks like you could also use some bigger sway bars.

Hoov, see that license plate on the front? It's still a street driven car... well, when the motor gets fixed anyway!

It'll be something very similar to that Fubar!

Actually, I uploaded the in-car footage to Streetfire.net as well so it's a little easier on the bandwidth...

http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...be000e43e0.htm

Unfortunately, the camera was mounted just a little bit too low and it's amazing how much the image stabilization takes the violence out of the G forces inside the cockpit and makes it look like you're going slower than you really are...

yeh. there's no need for a turbo. that's a option. F54, a older head. E series should give a 10:5 Comp. not the E88, but the newer one. polish it up. I am just guess that you are still runin Carbs, so older head would fit you just fine. My suggestions, F54 with 3.0 bore. E series head with Inter oiled mild cam. your carbs. suite you just fine out there.

turbo doesn't have the smooth response that an NA has. At least not an older turbo engine. There are some things I like better about the NA L28 I had.
