Rear Passenger Brake Caliper ... BROKE!

Ok guys need your help ASAP!!! The brake caliper broke, the cylinder seems to be shot to hell. I need a replacement fast. Called a local auto parts store but its like 162 for it.... broke as hell and dont wanna spend that much. I wanna know if there is any other Z whose brake calipers will fit and that will work!! I gotta driving test on the 9th so I need the car working for the days before that to at least get some seat time (I know ill do well but I become a nervous wreck). Seriously guys need your help now!!!!!!!

Those rear brake calipers are brutally expensive no mater what. $162 sounds a little high but not by much. You might be able to find one for around $135 if you look around enough. Otherwise, you could try a pick and pull but you never know what you are getting that way and I usually don't recommend using junk yard brake parts. If you go that route though... Remember that the rear calipers are "Actuating" and that the piston screws in and out. If you try and compress it without twisting it, it will be FUBAR in no time.

Rod.

what year is your 280zx? 82-83 rear calipers & rebuilds are easier to find than the 79-81's. I couldn't drive my Z for about 3 months, because I needed a rear rebuild for my 81.... finally found a NOS on ebay.

1979-81 are one type of caliper. 1982-83 are another type. No other interchangability that I know of.

1st gen Maxima is very simular, but does not fit! (I tried)

82-83 are the more expensive type. I was quoted over $200 for mine so you're lucky. Stupid wrecking yard charged me $50 for a caliper; they knew I was in a pinch. I'm a little better at negotiating now. I'm on my 3rd rear pass brake caliper. The other 3 are still original. wuzupwitdat?

Yea its a 83 Turbo. Actually I just took it out and "fixed" it. Seems to be working fine.. I might still get a new one just to be on the safe side.
