quick question about injectors
quick question about injectors
I have a 83 280zx n/t and 2 of the injectors are suspect. One of my buddies has a nearly new set of turbo injectors that i can buy from him for cheap but i'm not sure if this will make my car run rich and crappy or possible hurt something in the long run. I would just go out and get a new set but I just had a kid and money is pretty tight and i need my car running.
Any ideas about this or should i be ok?
thanks in advance.

Buy n/a injectors. Don't use turbo injectors unless you have quite a bit of work done to your Z. We had another member here who went against that advice on his naturally aspirated Z, and it ran poorly until he finally realized it was mistake.
MAF is a BIOTCH!!!!! get the n/a's at autozone... i cant find my recept but i think it took about $280 but i replaced all my holders and got extra seals just incase i fudged up the installation... but i didnt.... cause im a master mechanic.... no changing them was pretty easy except for when i was trying to get the fuel rail off and i had to start taking off alll kinds of parts to get it off so i just cut off a bracket and saved like 2 hours... its at the front of the motor and you know it when you get there
I tried putting turbo injectors on my x gurlfriends 1983 280zx na auto... i can tell u what happened after driving the car for about 25 miles it built up so much pressure inside the gas take that the gas stoped dead in the road... too much pressure... when i took off the gas cap gas really squirted out... high high high high high pressure kinda scary if u think about it " metal locking cap to a metal gas pipe " never the less i got some used fuel injectors off a 1985 ? nissan maxima 810 ? with the L-6 engine from the junk yard... workd fine never looked back...
Now I'm stumped. The injectors should have had no effect on the pressure in the fuel system unless the fuel pressure regulator was faulty. The only conditions I can think of are that the flow rate on the injectors was too high for the fuel pump to keep up and you would go lean or if your return line was clogged and even then, you should have had vacuum built up in your tank not pressure.
Now that I think about it, there is absolutely no condition that would allow pressure to be built up in your gas tank, even with a completely failed fuel pressure regulator that was allowing full bypass. You should still have a vacuum in your tank.
You sure you didn't connect the boost gauge to your fuel return line?

thats what i was thinking when i read it ... i would figure you would have less pressure with a higher fuel rate turbo injectors and a N/A regulator
the only way i see a pressure build up is N/A injectors and turbo regulator?

No, thats a horrible way to do the job, don `t encourage Z abuse or I will become a moderator and ban you.
For about 15 bucks, most of your local auto repair centers can clean the injectors for you. Using a mixture of cleaner and ultra sonic waves to break stuff apart. Then you still have those little filters to keep gunk outa the injector itself. You don`t think its a big deal now, but wait till one or two of those sticks themselves open, or closed. Sheesh. Some people.
or do a cleaning rig like I've done. You could do the super simple method. Bowl, or container of fuel/cleaner mix, pump feed line in container, then the pump out connected to fuel filter, then directly to injector. Hook everything up to battery and make sure you have the injector spraying back into the container. The fuel/cleaner mix will have no where else to go, but through the injector. It will free everything up and get it spraying correctly. The fuel filter will catch the excess debris. I actually managed to plug a fuel filter with how much junk came out of my injectors. You could see the difference in the spray though.
