power steering rack rebuild

Has anyone here ever attempted to rebuild their power steering rack?

I have searched and haven't found anything promising.

According to the FSM, a special tool is required to take apart the rack:

It's a special spanner wrench for removing the locknuts on the tube.
I cannot find this wrench anywhere and am unsure if I want to go through the trouble of making one.

For the seal kit, new boots and inner tie rod ends, I am looking at ~$150. A freshly rebuilt rack can be had for ~$200 - $250. Not sure if it is worth the trouble of rebuilding esp if I have to make the tool.

Anyone have any experience here? Did you locate a tool somewhere, or just bodge through it without the tool?

Also, has anyone replaced the rubber insulators that go between the rack and the frame/mounts? Mine are toast and I can't find any reasonable replacements.

Thanks

rubber insulators

you can still get them from Nissan.
I have a spare set for another car, the package has the pn on it. I think I posted the pn in a older thread somewhere...
