Cause: Probably got the timing 180 degrees off,

Effect: Car ain't gonna run,

Fix: Get a new AFM and install is after you find out why it back fired

Rod.

is there a notch in your chain that aligns with the cam sprocket?
maybe it jumped a few notches...

just throwing out ideas

you should redo the timing totaly...
get the #1 to TDC...get your dizzy set properly, then see if your chain lines up with the notches in the crank and the cam sprocket.....

the day before this happend The car ran great. I got her to run, she only ran for about 2-3 min. But she ran, and reved up with gas pedel.the reasion she only ran for a few min's is due to empty gas tank. She ran dry. Next day I threw in a few gal's. and she strated backfireing. There's fuel in the lines I checked. And before I started the car after adding fuel. I turned the key to on. waited for fuel pump to turn off. Then to off. did it again a few times to alow pump to prime the lines. The orange fuel needle goes to 1/8 mark, and sitst there.

well....backfire = improper fuel ratio...your timing is off, bad plugs, rotor or cap, ...could have water in the lines...
you say it ran fine before you put in the new gas...i would rule out timing and ignition components then since it was good
now either you are starving the fuel or you got something in your tank......
i would start from the top...
first fix your blown hoses and get a working afm
check over timing again
check spark wires and rotor and cap
check sufficient fuel pressure in the lines...maybe bleed off some gas trough the lines to clean them out, how long has the car sat in the JY?
missing something?

again ideas...

Well. When I got the car, there was only a few thing's gone. I have replaced them all. The guy did not just get rid of his Z. He got rid of all 3 of them. I bought one of the three. I have checked the fuel lines. First time i ever seen gas shoot 2 feet in the air. I am pretty much guessing they work. Plug's are new, Wire's two. I will re check everything. reset her top dead center again. and set dissy.

Once when I was changing my fuel filter on my 300zx I had the fuel line on top of the filter off and for some strange f-in reason my dad turns the key to on when I was standing directly above the filter looking down at it. I got sprayed in the face with a bunch of gas.

valves on 1 should be closed on compression stroke when setting timing...
so lobes should not be pointing down...

you saw the smaller circle instead something like the bigger one right...this is at the FIRST cyl TDC...

well if you are looking at it right and its at TDC...and by what you say then your cam is off...
right now when its suppose to make combustion in the chamber...your valves are open and sending it out the front...
