oil pressure....
oil pressure....
Hey guys, I just purchased an oil pressure sender unit for my '79 280ZX. I am hoping this will give me an accurate oil pressure reading in the car. (It always just shows max. pressure when the car is running, then drops down when the car is shut off.) The only problem is, I dont know where the sender unit is located under the hood. Also, are there any precautions I have to take when switching this unit out? Will this replacement even fix my problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

very good picture!
My only suggestion is to have the engine off while changing the sender unit!
Oh, and a cool engine helps too as you'll be touching it. The oil will drain out very slowly when you remove the old sender, but just have the new one ready and screw it in. That fixes most every problem with a bad reading on the gauge. I think with a voltometer you can input a certain ohm reading into the wire and see if the gauge responds properly. The factory service manual probably has instructions on how to do this. I just replaced mine and it fixed the irregular readings.

Ok, but is there any special trick to taking the sender unit out? I mean, I tried to unscrew it from the engine the other day for what seemed like a half hour and I don't think I really got anywhere....The old one's still in there and I dont know how much it really came out...Thanks.
btw
Hey icice, how did you get your engine looking so good? Me and a buddy were thinking about taking my engine out this week to clean it up and replace any parts that may be worn. Any suggestions?

get some high tempaluminum paint. that stuff does wonders.. lol i took my whole intake manifold apart and cleaned and paitned it.. also all the brackets i cleaned and repainted.. same goes for the pullys.. its just all the attention to detail.. since your gonna take your engine out.. i sudgest you change yoru freze plugs as well.. and timing chain and tensioner. its a lot easier to repace them when the engine is out of the car... clean or paint everything you remove from your engine...
