So i just bought my first ever Z car after many year of wanting one, and its a 82 280zx T-Top. was just wonder if anyone would be willing to give me any heads up about problems they have run across with this model or just common issues in general, I'm going to spend time working on it over the summer. Any and all feedback would be welcome. the car does run and drive fine atm but has about 180k on it so not sure how much longer that will last

The exhaust studs tend to brake and will cause you some issues, especially on turbo engines.
Mainly the first and last stud are the problematic ones. I would check those.

Throw in an ignition control module- small black box on front of distributor, very easy to replace and can cause no start/stutter at cruising speed. These are common to fail, mine did (83 280zx NA) At about 177k. Exhaust studs as stated above, be careful with them or you’ll be welding new ones on (or vice gripping the flange together until you can get to it). Check your headlight wiring, and check all connections below your steering column- they sometimes burn out and cause dim/dead headlights. Also, a cheap thrush sounds incredibly nice and throaty on these L28s if you want a cockier sound, just sayin’.

ALSO, 180k is nothing for this engine and transmission. Someone just posted an odometer pic at 368k and counting. Stick to non synthetic 10-30 and throw some MMO in while you’re at it- you’ll be set for a long time.
