My new 1980(11/80) 280ZX 5 Speed N/A Slick Top. This car was Free to em Runs, Drives. Needs minor break work, But has all new Rotor's, pads, and rebuilt caliper's. It just has a small leak some where. has just has a oil change. new plugs, pulg wires, belts. Inter is in great condition. good carpet. Perfect headliner. Motor has a bit of a smoking problem. but it does not burn any oil. Pics are from when i drove it home Yesterday. when i brought it home. Flames are going. no worryes there.

I like that fuel rail. Is that one of those Pallnet rails? I've been thinking about getting one with a fuel pressure gauge on it.

meh, I don't really care so much about smooth or fine. It looks way better anyway and that pressure gauge is super useful.

My Blue 2+2 that i have had for a year now is gona go on a Long Term build up. I am thingkin Shock braces, and turn her into a Conv. 2+2's look sweet as convertables. longer body. I plan on painting the Ablove Z flat black, along with the silver snowflakes, make her into a "you lookin at me?" car.

not less weight. dont T tops have to be somewhat reinforced just like convertables? so you actually add more weight in building the support structure for the windshield and what not?

Guys:
What is this vent coming over the valve cover in Fubar's pic? I was looking at this on mine yesterday and it seems to be attached to a blower. I'm assuming its some sort of cooling unit for the engine exterior but it doesn't function on mine. Is it safe to rip out? What's its purpose?

Any idea what it is, or was? I've searched my Haynes manual and can't find it in there.

oh sorry I forgot to answer part of your question.. I think its called the injector blower or something? your talking about the plastic turbo looking thing right? I think it only comes on if you run your car for a certain amount of time or if the car reaches a specific temp, I dont remember. But I do know you can take it out and it wont hurt anything.

it stop's Vapor Lock. A very minor problem that was not a common thing. Nissan stuck them on there so they would not have to hear about it any more. It's sfae to take off. like 1 in 7,000 Z's ever get Vapor lock.

actually the Haynes manual is pretty good. If you've seen the FSM's for the 280zx they're really not all that much better then the Haynes. In some cases I prefer the Haynes because the FSM assumes you have special dealership tools in certain situation. I'd recommend the Haynes to 90% of the owners. But stay away from Chiltons. On newer, more complicated vehicles then a FSM is well worth the money.

And by the way, the Haynes DOES mention the blower fan and the process for its removal and reinstallation. It was a Haynes manual that told me what it was. When I bought my 280zx the first thing I did (other then put gas in it) was stop on the way home to pick up a Haynes. I've got a Haynes for every car I've ever owned.

If you are talking about the Haynes Owner's workshop manual, then yes. If is the regular Haynes, I am sorry to say the FSM blows it away. The FSM goes in much more better detail, than any manual out there. And the Clymer manual would fall in after in the top 3 manuals for me. But as for the Chilton's, they are friggin' incomplete, and hard to figure out what you are looking for. Not trying to step on you J, but the FSM is the best manual you can get for any car. They have everything you need to get the job done.

If you put a step by step Technical Article together, I'll make it a sticky.
