My Bodywork

Well I am officially off vacation for the next month then I am off to London for 2 weeks. These vacations are putting real big dents in the time I wanted to have my car done by. Any who, This is the majority of the body work that was done, It took only one day and there is still some left but the fenders look alot better in my opinion. Also I am going to paint the car Cadillac Escalade Pearl White, any input on that?? THX, enjoy the pics.

Well I actually ran into some problems with the hatch, it had a little rust on it and I couldnt weld the holes the metal just kept burning so I just had to use body filler.{which I was trying to avoid} and the fenders were pretty straight I just welded a plate where the turn signal was and gave it to my budy to sand and primer. oh and wildman It depends on what you want, I am still learning right now and barely trust myself doing bodywork.

I don't have a welder so I always use body filler. I'm doing some body work on my truck now. I sand the inside of the metal down to bare metal around the hole. Then I play fiberglass matt on and let it cure. Then I put some fiberglass reinforced bondo on the outside. That stuff is rough but I sand it as smooth as possible. Then a very thin layer of regular bondo finishes it up nice and smooth. Lots of primer and its done.

I did this on my Z about 7 years ago. The hood where I did repair is still perfect. The area around the gas tank filler was much worse and I do have some rust bubbles now.

Mainly the passenger rear quarter panel is buckled out a bit. The guy that I got it from said he got rearended. But it is not a whole lot, but it causes the passenger door to be off a bit. And it has a small dent in the door because of it. I am not that good at bodywork. I mean this is basically my first car I am restoring. Also the front bumper is pushed to one side a little. Not a lot, but enough that the front bumper is slanted to one side. It is kind of weird actually. And of course I have the same problem as you have with the rear hatch. D#mn louver holes from the past. I can't stand louvers on these cars especially! That is my opinion of course.

So I figured I would redo the interior, because I have artistic ability. I have just about all the parts I need to finish it. Mainly I want to sand the floor board, maybe prime it. And then add the sound-deadener insulation. Then I can install the carpet. The headliner I am going to get some gray fabric material. Cut it out, for the t-tops, roof lights etc... And glue it on the original cardboard piece. My mom is going to help me with that. It shouldn't cost me more than $10 or so. She redid the headliner on a '87 Subaru XT. Which a friend of mine has now. It looks great! Anyway that is a summary of what is going on.

What welder were you using at what settings and what size wire?

Sheet metal on these cars is very fragile and doesn't tolerate heat very well as you've discovered.

Use the lowest amperage setting on your welder with the thinnest wire you can.

Hey you said it was June 3rd right? If so I couldn't make it, I have to work Fridays, starting next week. There isn't anything going on Saturday? You see I work from 4pm to 2:30am. Mon-Fri. But anyway I will get a picture of my quarter panel for you, and you tell me what you think. I miss the graveyard shift days. When I would work from either 10 or 11pm to 6 or 7am in the morning. But those days are gone. Anyway get back to me on the pavillions, if there is one on Saturday. Talk at you later!

Wow, a straight T4 turbo with external wastegate. Awesome.
Will that turbo fit between the adaptor and the steering arm?

Nice work on the body too.
