Well I have pretty much all the wiring exposed. The one wire that was burnt and melted was my taillights. Which have always worked. Anyway all I have is my key chime...headlights..brake lights..and interior lights. Everything else is completely dead. I replaced the acc. relay..the fuel pump relay..and the ignition relay. And even changed out the ignition switch. I checked the fuse box..and fuses. All good...the fusible links are all good. The battery cables are fine. I am at a complete loss..and really stumped. I really need help..I am desperate and broke. I can't afford to take it anywhere. Besides that the dash area is completely apart. And he doesn't move under his own power. Please help...anybody..

^No I don't think so. I basically have nothing..except for what I mentioned. I even swapped out the ECU. And it works perfectly in my slicktop. So at least that is ruled out. If I don't figure it out soon. I may have to swap entire wiring harnesses out. I really don't want to do that though. Because I don't want to chop my other Z. Everything pretty much works in it electrically. And I want to get it on the road here soon. This sucks...I have never run into this before..

Sounds like a positive wire is shorting out somewhere. I lost my dash lights, taillights, turn signals and radio once when that happened. Good luck man, I hope you find the root of the problem.

Okay...update...all good. A friend of mine came over. And in less than 10 minutes found the problem. Ready? It was a wire on one of the fusible links. It was burnt internally. I couldn't see it with my eye. So I overlooked it. He used the ohmeter...and it was not getting continuity. All good now...just need to put my dash and stuff back together..lol Anyway thanks to everybody that responded and contributed to my problem. You all rock!! I love this website. Thanks a bunch!!!

I'm so glad you found the problem. I'm taking in my 83 N/A in the morning to get the tranny rebuilt. I was going to do it myself but recovering from shoulder surgery is taking a bit longer than than I thought. Take Care WildmaN and enjoy your ride.

DOH! I can't believe I didn't think to mention that. Your description of all the dash lights going out at the same time screams fuseable link...

Good for you. Now put that ***** back together and drive that Z! I can't tell you guys how great it is to be driving one of mine again. I have this burning urge to drive all the time now. Kinda hard with three kids pulling at your coat tails all the time!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.
