Lubrication system school help

OKay so last week I started school at UTI in Avondale AZ. Well the courses I am taking are Automotive/ Diesel/ and plan on taking hydraulics and refrigerant to include the Industrial side.

Anywho. I am in class and using my Z specs on a worksheet. The problem is that the school uses some useless website. I also used their whatever to 81 oldschool Chiltons manual. I got most of what I was looking for except the info wasnt for and 81 but for 80.

I need the specs on the Lubrication System

1. Vehicle yr. 1981.
2. Vehicle Make Datsun/Nissan.
3. Vehicle Model 280Zx
4. Engine size CC/ or CU
5. Reqd Oil Weight ?
6. Reqd Oil Rating ?
7. Service Intervals:
Light Service ?
Heavy Service ?
8. Location of Oil Pressure Sending Unit ?
9. Oil Pump Type Rotor
10. Oil Pump Location: Located BTM of engine front cover
11.The Oil Pump is Driven by the: Camshaft?
12.OIL Pump Specifications:
13. Oil Pressure at Idle cold: HOT:
14. Oil Pressure at 2000 RPM Cold: HOT:

Check in the Haynes or FSM.

What is this FSM you speak of. If it is our zdriver search button, its not the info I have been looking for. Has plenty of specs like hp and tq but not lubrication info.

You should buy a Haynes manual... has all the specs you are looking for on page 25-27.

FSM = Factory Service Manual. Can be downloaded here: www.xenons130.com

I have one but after moving I am having issues locating it. I found my two other manuals for my pickup but as for the car manual I cannot find it.

I have two... one for the garage, one for the house. Another $14 might be a wise investment for you.

I will have to do that as seen I cannot locate mine. I have chosen to change the vehicle on the worksheet to my pickup. I only hope I can find everything I need.

I saw a built GM 355 at the school and I want it for my Z.

Here's some quick answers for you, from www.google.com and the Haynes manual.

4. Engine size CC/ or CU: 2393cc
5. Reqd Oil Weight? As in all cases... it depends on the operating conditions.
6. Reqd Oil Rating? SAE
7. Service Intervals:
Light Service? @ 1000, 3750, 7500, 15000, 30000 miles.
Heavy Service? When needed.
8. Location of Oil Pressure Sending Unit? Passenger side of block, near motor mount.
9. Oil Pump Type: Rotor
10. Oil Pump Location: Located BTM of engine front cover
11.The Oil Pump is Driven by the: Camshaft? No, crankshaft.
12.OIL Pump Specifications:
13. Oil Pressure at Idle cold: HOT:
14. Oil Pressure at 2000 RPM Cold: HOT: I don't have exact #'s... but 60psi+ is normal when cold. 30-60psi when hot.

For the oil weight I meant factory pref.

The reqd oil I was asking the oil letter code.
I think you meant API not SAE.

Thank you for the info you provided.
