Location of VIN
Location of VIN
How many places, other than the dash, is the VIN number located. Also if i have two cars and i am only using the fame and unibody from one and i am using EVERYTHING else from the other: engine; transmission; all interior; quarter panels; etc. which vin do i have to use the one from the frame, or the other one, or either?
On my '81 ZX 2+2, the VIN is located on the T-top glass where it starts to roll down toward the door, and on the rear quarter-glass where it comes to a point at the back. I'm not sure if that's also the deal with the 2-seater - assuming that's what you have. As for which VIN to use, it's best to use the one from the frame/unibody which the parts are going onto. However, assuming you have a clear title to both cars, either one is fine, honestly. If you're simply trying to keep the car with one VIN in all places, I wouldn't worry. One of my T-tops broke a while back, and I just replaced them with a pair I found at a junkyard - the VIN is completely different from stock. IMHO, I think Nissan put the VIN on the tops and quarter glass for theft reasons - if someone yanks your glass, you can find them again because of the VIN etched into the glass. Hope that helps.
