Ignition module compatibility

Curious to know which ignition modules are compatible with each other. I have an '80 280ZX and I'm questioning if the module is working properly. On the side it say E12-80, I'm assuming the latter number is the year of manufacture? At Pick 'n Pull today I pulled one off of an '83, and the stamping on the side says E12-92. The other obvious difference between the two is that the one on my car has two places for connectors to attach, whereas the one from the '83 has three places for connectors. The "third" connector stub on the later version has two spade connectors, one labelled "I", the other labelled "W." Are these two items compatible, assuming I just don't run anything to the third connector? Thanks in advance.
