I got my KnN! The right way.

Well I ask my boss about the KnN and he said I could have it but I had to take it off myself...so I did. I was going to use the entire chrome pipe off the Mustang but it would not have fit the 280zx the way i wanted it too, so I will custom make my own inlet pipe for it...pics to come soon...well as soon as I get all the stuff together for the build!

Little Nicky...yeah its a little redneck but it was like $6 and a free filter, it looks good and once I get the bracket made and paint the pipe it will look great...but best of all it is fully functional for $6!!!

It wont melt...unless you are putting direct flame on it...this pipe is pretty thick also so I am sure it can handle some boosted applications too...but it is a little heavy weight wise, more so than aluminum or chromed steel I think. Edit: I just looked at the pipe. This pipe will handle whatever boost you like, it is rated at 260psi.

It's cool man, not arguing...but this pipe is meant for hot or cold water so it is pretty durable. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have aluminum but it is gonna take alot of heat soak to mess with the air going through this pipe.

It's not so bad...get to work on the car, hang out with other friends and stuff now. There is still something missing now though, but it will be ok.

Yeah, I really didn't want to pay that much just for a filter but I really can't complain about this. I am sure it will help the car as I was running the stock air box without a filter for a long time...just glad I didn't suck a bird into the engine!!

bailing wire, ehh. Just use the end of the duck tape roll, that way it'll be an even look...it ain't broken if duck tape will hold it...An i think the afm, holds it together enough, or are you talking of hose clamps?

No no, all the clamps are fine but the filter is just bouncing around in front of the radiator so I need to make a bracket there where the old air filter box was.

ah, i see, hmm, i was going to stick mine out in front of the engine compartment, but am worried about water hitting it and causing stalling and such. so i'm looking inside where nismos is, and were the headlight washer was. then just doing some mods and putting louvers there, that'd be cool.

I don't think water is going to be a problem...unless you are dunkin the front of the car in some BIG puddles. The filter actually sits pretty high in front of the radiator if you have the filter level. However if you are worried about water, AEM makes a by-pass valve that if the filter is submerged in water the flaps on the AEM open so water never enters the intake. But with the filter in the front of the car you can bet you are getting the coldest air charge.

Here, like this, this is my friends 280zx. If you are familiar with the bracket on the front of the factory air box then you will know how high the new filter is sitting. Also here is a pic of that bypass valve from AEM.
