How to replace ignition switch in 82?

The Chiltons book says you have to drill out bolts and get new ones from Nissan and all...this is after you pull the steering wheel and take the covers off. Do you really have to drill out bolts?

just use the key to put it in accesory mode, and the bypass the rest of the ignition witha pushbutton starter, thats what i did and it was a lot easier than doing that (by the way the manual is right, it is just as much of a pain in the @** as it sounds

Are you replacing the ignition switch or the ignition assembly (the one that holds the key in). If you're just replacing the ignition switch, look behind it and you'll see two screws (after taking bottom steering wheel cover and the panel with the light on it off). If you take those two screws out, you'll be able to slide the old ignition switch out and replace it with a new one without having to drill it out and buying a completely new assembly. Much cheaper too. I did that because I couldn't pass tech at the race track. Good luck, let me know if you need more details.
