While we are admitting our stupidity, I ran out of gas twice in one day. hahaha!!!
I was in my heater and a key and AM radio (no a/c) 72 Pinto gas saver leaving high school (this happened in 1976) in a hurry to pickup my brother at the middle school to help me deliver newspapers and ran out of gas. Knowing I was in a hurry, I put a dollars worth in (about a gallon and a half in 70's) so I could get to the paper pickup as soon as possible. Now I am running behind and being the know it all 16 year old that I was, I decided to wait until I delivered my newspapers before getting more gas, ( even though the gas station was next door to the newspaper pickup site). Well, the car shut off with about 10 newspapers to go and a mile or so from the nearest gas station, but I learned my lesson, hasn't happened again but once in last 30 years, and it was due to a bad fuel gauge in a 2000 Rodeo.

one time i wanted to see how long i could drive with the gas light on. turns out pretty long. 3 days worth of to and from school and work. like 20 or so miles. i was pulling up to the gas station as the car did, it rolled across the busy street just as theere was a break in traffic and right to the pump. it was the most amazing timing ever in my life.....EVER. lol.

When the light comes on that means you have 1 gallon of gas left right? P.S. glad to hear the car fired back up man.

You talking about the 280zx? No when the fuel light comes on, it means there is less than a 1/4 tank of gas left. At least it has been with my Z's.

My '82 ZX is below 1/4 of a tank of gas most of the time and I have never seen a light come on to let me know my fuel is low...1/4 of a tank still gets me like a hundred and something miles....or something like that.

I've been asking that question for months. My fuel guage does this weird thing where the needle swings back and forth and it only gives me a very rough estimate of how much fuel is in the car but, fortunately my light still works. I usually fill up when the light comes on so from a full tank to fuel light I go about 300 miles making me about 18 mpg roughly, I've never had the car die on me though but, then again I only drive a mile or two once the light comes on.

So apparently when the light comes on you have approximately one gallon left just as someone has already stated. Last night as I was approaching a stop light the fuel light came on. There was a gas station right across the street so I pulled in and filled up. Just slightly over 17 gallons, I have the 18 btw since mine is 2+2. Good to finally know but sadly this means I don't even make 18mpg.

On my 82 280ZX, Bitchin Betty tells me my "Fuel Level is Low" when it reaches just below 1/4 of a tank, then she reminds me again when it gets down to 1/8 of a tank. My 86 300ZX "low fuel light" came on right at 1/4 of a tank. The gauge doesn't work on my 84 ZXT, so I have no idea about it (only put about 40 miles on that car since I bought it 2 years ago). I've driven 100 miles on a 1/4 tank of gas in all of my Z's (other than the 84), with no problems.

Actually, I never ran out of gas in any car I've owned, but I did something else that's even more embarrassing - related to fuel. LOL! Maybe that can be a new thread for "Most embarrassing moments with your Z". It was so bad/stupid, that I don't even know if I wanna share it with anyone. I still lmao every time I think about it though.

Wait, if you wanted to save gas why didnt you go the speed limit, and how do you coast 3 miles?

Maybe I misinterpreted, IDK.

Its ok i'm only seventeen and i've run out of gas a bunch. One time I was drivng a f-250 with two tanks i knew the one was almost out i made it about 3 miles pat the gas station and it ran out. I thought that te other tank was full but it turns out that tank only had enough fuel to start the truck and drive 100ft before that tank ran out. THan another time was in my friends jeep cherokee we pulled into the pump and the car ran out..... we wont' get into the rest of the times.

How's this for embarrasing... ?

So, I had to travel to Columbus Ohio for meetings at HQ on Monday (Just got back last night). Anyways, I only had large suitcases and one really small one that wouldn't really work for a two day trip so I went and bought a new medium sized bag. Well, I thought "Why buy a black one when everybody and their brother has a black bag... If I get a RED one, I'll spot it much easier at the airport".

Did you guys know that Columbus Ohio is the home of Ohio State University... Number 1 ranked college footbal team in America and a town steeped in O.U. Richness??? I didn't. Did you also know that the team/school colors are RED and BLACK? I didn't.

So every FREAKING bag that came off the plane was either:

A: RED

or

B: BLACK

I'm an idiot.

Rod.
