Hitting the gas turns on my windshield wipers!?

Lol its turning into a clusterf*ck now!! I love her though. I got a working starter and fuel pump today for my Z from a salvage. Hooked everything up, no problems. When I accelerate or hit the gas though, now my windshield wipers move! The windshield wiper switch was only moving EXTREMELY slow on high and not really working otherwise. And I felt like I heard buzzing down by my legs. :100:

I switched the windshield wiper motor under the hood out from my 83' and they still move when I hit the gas. But now the switch doesn't work whatsoever. I think I heard a sound beneath the kick panel under the steering wheel when i turned the switch on. Wtf lol. HELPPP!! Has something shorted out?

I'll upload a video if need be, the few ppl I told this evening thinks it's hillarious lol.=/

They move as in turn on? Or like they are loose?

JAyD_917 11-10-2013 03:21 PM

they literally turn on.

Ok nismo, I unplugged the harness to the wiper motor and when I worked today on acceleration initially like from light to light the cars acceleration/and dash(meaning all gauges) shut off than come back on as I floored harder after that, the dash stayed lit up.(The fuel light, the door light and the brake lights to be exact.)
From what I know and have managed to put together through search its likely the alternator or the fusible links, and I should also check the continuity at the wires between the positive battery cable and the fusible link's. Am I on the right track?

Is your battery properly tied down to the point it does not move at all? Because it sounds like you've got some loose wiring...

If you suspect the alternator (the classic sign is that the dash lights up like a Christmas tree), then take your car to your local parts store and have them run a load test on your battery / alternator.

The battery has the tie down on it yes. Loose wiring sounds like the problem because my relays are fine. The alternator also has a loose wire coming out of the end of it that my 83 doesnt. I will upload a picture? Could it in anyway be my ECU going bad?

4 Attachment(s)
Here's the alternator wire that isn't connected to anything.
I was taking pictures and touched it like a Dumbass without removing the battery cables, it barely touched the back of the alternator and sparks went flying. Luckily i didn't make things worse. She still starts

Wheres FricFrac when you need him lol!!?

Are you pointing to the white wire? That's the live wire to the battery... so is it hooked up properly now?

The alternator looks exactly like it does in the picture still. There are 2 white wires coming from that bolt. One connected to the battery cable and one really short wire that's been cut and I can't find the other end of it. Try looking at the picture one more time a bit closer. it's hard to catch.
particularly the one with the arrow is clearer to see

that many views and no one knows where that other wire goes?

Tested and changed the alternator.. Bad diode.Pretty much everything else works now, I just haven't put my original wiper motor on the car to see if my wipers work again now. Thanks Nismo!!

In the Dominican Republic on holidays looking for Datsuns. You hardly see any cars on the beach so I haven't been very successful ;)

Just for future reference a fried diode mean the AC from the alternator never gets changed to DC. The battery has to try and smooth it out so it sorta works instead of not working at all which usually means mass chaos. If you hook a multi meter up to your battery and test for AC you'll see the AC voltage indicating a bad diode/regulator....

Makes perfect sense!! Thanks
