No, we decided that here in the U-S of A we pronounce it Zee. Where as any other English based english speaking country prounounces it Zed. It's just the way they pronounce their letter "Z" in their alphabet. douba-you, ex, why, Zed. So it was settled that Zed is not a nickname, but an actual letter of the alphabet. And it's true, top gear also pronounced it Zed so there you go.
