check engine light 280zx turbo
[I have a 82 280 Z turbo that use to run pretty good even though it has been a project car for some time. It always started easily and all the gauges worked even tho the sensor light would stay on. Now when I start it with much difficulty if I try to accelerate at all it dies on me.It can only idle and if I play with it long enough it will finally acelerate after pressing on the gas than letting up on gas after I let up on the gas is when rpm go up. Plus check engine light is on and none of the gauges are working except oilpressure gauge and turbo boost and the tach. I have also been trying to find a way to get the computer codes off this car Any suggestions are greatly appreciated Thanks

There is no "Check Engine" light on the 280zx's.... There is a "Sensor" light that comes on @ 30k miles to tell the driver to change the O2 sensor for the first time, then a wire under the dash @ the passenger door needs to be unplugged. The 280zx ECU is very old technology, and the normal driver can't get "codes" from the ECU. You need a Nissan diagnostics box, that is almost impossible to get your hands on these days, and truthfully, not all that important. You can diagnose a problem w/o it.
It sounds like you might have an electrical problem, along w/ the wrong air / fuel mixture.
Start by checking your timing, and all sensor harnesses. Also pull you sparkplugs & check for any unusual deposites / change them for new ones.
