YEAH! My Z runs again BTW, after $1000 in parts....but now onto other issues.

After research ive concluded the rattling in my rear is definatly the brakes. I can gently apply them and it goes away totally, let off and it comes back. Its present at all speeds.

After reading several threads here ive seen people mention that this is caused by a missing shim piece that keeps the pads tight, and is a factory piece not available when just buying new pads+ rotors. Now This sound is ticking me off (and people like to look at me funny...my car looks pretty nice but the noise kills it when i cruise...) and i want to fix it. Knowing and research is one thing, i need details now though...the earlier threads were all rather vague on it, so if i can get some nice deatiled info for myself and others that would be great.

I can proably (even though any Z in my area is rare as hell in a junkyard) find the shim i need in a junkyard, but is that a viable option? Do they wear out? On top of that, just what does this thing LOOK like? A picture, drawing, or good description of where it actually -fits- would help me alot. Hell, maybe i can fab something like it up? All i know is my Z catalogs dont have a part that matches it (unless i but new calipers maybe?!) so im turning to you knowledgable people once again.

Thanks!

I think it was Rod who said it best: 280zx brakes squeak... get used to it.

I personally wouldn't spend my time trying to hunt down shims. Just fab some up w/ heating or a/c sheet metal. Or use some brake quiet gel.

humm, thats all well and good. I can manage that. If it was just squeeking it would be nothing also, buts its a RATTLING that just drives me nuts (like my car doesnt have enough noises from loose parts....)

Just where do they GO though? Behind the pads? Or is it part of the caliper? Im willing to just stuff something in there if it helps.

Ok thanks guys, i can proably use some sheet metal in there, or something similar.
