'82 cruise control...
'82 cruise control...
Does anybody's cruise on their '79-'83 still work. I'm wondering what's up with mine. I have changed the column switches on my car (to get lights working right), but it didn't help the cruise. Also, my rear defrost doesn't work, and the rear wiper only works when it dry (DOH!)...
Anyways, give me somewhere to start and go and I'll get it figured out. I'm just not a big wiring guru (I'm a wiring gugu).
Thanks for all info
Carl

nine out of ten you have a vacuum problem. probably a vacuum line, maybe avacuum canister, maybe even your pcv valve or pcv hose. i take it your cruise light comes on but it won't engage when you activate it? let me know and i'll brake out my book and try to walk you through a trouble shooting procedure.

If it is a vacum system, you should have to little canisters on the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment, rith next to the strut. You will need to make sure the hoses hooked to them are not cracked or broke. If they are good then you need to check the canisters for damage. My 81 only required a new hose.
On my car the deal on the brake pedal that pushes the button in(to turn off the cruise when you hit the brake) was not there so I took a door panel clip and stuck it in the hole, and it works fine. I think there is two buttons one for the cruise and one for the brake lights. Just make sure there is something in both holes to push in both buttons.

There is also a relay under the passenger seat that is related to the cruise control. Sounds like yours works though, as the Cruise light will not come on if that relay is broken. The black box next to the relay under the seat is for your rear brake lights.
On my car, I replaced the two small canisters from a junk yard and replaced all the little hoses. The system still didnt' work! Then about 2 years later I decided to try it again and suddenly it kicked in and worked! Its been fine ever since. I rarely use it though...
But my A/C has never really worked.
