Re: 81 280zx ?????
one of my friends did the following on his series 1 RX7:
- Ditched the spare and the jack / tools and got a can of tire inflator.
- Ditched the factory stereo put in a lighter head unit
- Got rid of the rear seat / rear carpets
- Installed a lighter, free flow exhaust
- Got aluminium rims / lowering unsprung weight makes a difference in handlinhg
These are the most obvious things you can do, and Im sure you've already done some / most of them. Reducing wight can be a real pain, and if you go all the way, it can cost a bit as well.

Re: 81 280zx ?????
I have almost made a career out of reducing the weight on my 280 ZX -- You can:
1. replaced the crash bumper shocks with hand fabricated aluminum ones. I used 3/16" thick aluminum angle on the front and bent aluminum flat bar on the rear. Total cost <$100
2. remove the crash bumpers and replace with MSA aero kit - I cut off and tossed all but the bumpers ( see my car in ULH corner - "featured car")
3. Remove and toss the crappy little blower that is "supposed" to cool your injectors
4. Reove and toss the stock intake and air filter - replace with K&N
5. remove and toss "shield" on brake master cyl.
6. remove and toss center console
7. Remove and toss stock cruise control
8. I removed and tossed allof the "system moitor wiring and sensors. I filled 2 5 gallon buckets with wire
9. If your serious - remove and toss radio - I kept mine. but ripped out all of the factory wiring and put in a much simpler and lighter system
10. Get rid of all non essential items under hood - such as courtesy light, etc
11 Again if your are serious - replace power steering with manual unit from a 1979
12 replace electric window lifts with manual window lifts - easiest to switch to 1979 doors
With all of the above -- add Eibach springs and Tokico shocks to bring the handing VERY close to a 240
To make the motor hum on a budget get a 1983 Maxxima head, put ZX valves in it - BIG difference. If it is a 1980 change block to a F54 with flat top pistons
