77 fairlady turbo problem

Hello. I have a 77 Fairlady Z with a 82 turbo engine . Its been running great for about a year but when i drove it today it was running bad. I took off and shifted into 2nd and gave it some gas and it just cut out. It didnt die it just made a popping sound from the intake and lost all power until i let off of the gas. It only does it every know and then but i think its getting worse. I have checked all my connections to the afm, injectors, tps, head temp sensor, and they all look ok. I installed the computer, wiring harness and the engine so i know what everything does but i cant figure it out. Please help if you have any suggestions i can try. Thanks Michael Shields

Okay i pulled the fuel line off the fuel rail and its not pumping very much. I dont have a fuel pressure gauge but i think its either clogged somewhere or the fuel pump is going bad. The weird thing is i can hear the fuel pump working and it sounds like its pumping. So does anyone know if your fuel pump can go bad but still make a humming noise.

What did the problem turn out to be and how did you fix it?

Once you've fixed the problem, it's incredibly important to the quality of these archives that you post the solution. Even if it's something where you go DOH! I can't believe I didn't think of that!

Because, if you overlooked it, it's a guarantee that dozens of the rest of us will overlook it as well regardless of how simple it seems at the time.

It's your responsibility to let us know how you fixed it... Ok, maybe that's a little too bold, but you can't just leave us hanging in the air like this... I'll start to dwell over it trying to figure out what it was. Then I'll move into full obsession and start to wake up in cold sweats screaming FILTER! or REGULATOR! The anticipation will eat away at me like a disease until I finally crack under the pressure and quit my job trying to recreate the problem so I can finally figure out what the answer was.

By then, my children will be without their father and homeless, my wife will end up working in a Martha Stewart sweat shop to make enough money to keep the card board box under the Bay Bridge from being repossesed...

This will all be your fault... Please, save my family from this horrible fate!

Okay this is going to sound really stupid. I tried just about everything yesterday and finally decided to drain the gas to see what it looked like. When i took the drain plug out not much gas came out. So i realzed my problem, I was out of gas! My gas gauge was stuck on 1/4 tank. So i filled it back up and it ran great. It was just a waste of a day.

I've owned 2 83 280zxs and one 85 300zx and the gas guage has been funny in them all also my spedo in the 280s seems to be off and is really bouncy. Oh well its a fine trade for such a tight vehicle.
