10th Anniversary Car

I was driving through town the other day and spotted a Black/Gold 10th anniversary 280ZX in a parking lot. From what I could see at the time, it looked pretty cherry so I decided to pull in and take a looksey. As I parked along side it, the owner of it walks up to the door. He looks at my car and me and say's "nice car". I told him I just pulled in to check out his car because it was such a fine specimen and you don't see them everyday. Turns out, he is the original owner, car has 37,xxx original miles on it and spends 99.9% of it's time in a garage. It looks like it has 0 miles on it. It is perfect. He has no intention of selling it either (I asked). So we talked Z cars for a while and he drops the bomb... he has TWO 10th anniversary cars at home! He and his wife bought them the same day and they are both in the same overall condition... wifes car is the ultra-rare Red/Black combo!!! Knowing they would be collectible, I guess they decided after a year or so of driving them that they should try and keep them as pristine as possible, so they took them off the streets for good except for the occasional recreational drive. As we were talking about it, I remembered driving past the old Datsun dealership in town with my older sister and seeing those two cars parked nose to nose out in front of the dealership. When I mentioned that to him he said "Yup, they are the same two cars." How crazy is that? I was ten years old and those things stole my attention enough to remember it 25 years later. It was actually a ride in a 10th Anniversary car that same year that turned me into a Z car junkie. Funny how things from your childhood affect your adult life.

That is crazy man, the same 2 Z's you saw as a kid! That is mega-weird, but what a treat that would be knowing people having the Z's you saw earlier in life. And then bumping into one of them later on, and it turning out to be the same 2 cars. Wow what a trip man! I bet it blew your mind, I know it wouldv'e blew mine.

If you are interested in buying a black/red I know where you could get one for about $50. Unfortunaly it would probably take about $10,000 to get it road worthy. Its at a shop not to far from my house just sitting out back in the grass. I went there to buy an engine from the guy and almost **** myself when I saw it. He didn't even know what he had. I would have bought it but I don't have the time or money to take on a project like that. Seriously though, if anyone is interested let me know and i'll give you the shop's info.

Ahh ... back when there were "Datsun" dealerships.

That's freaking cool - I know I couldn't have controlled myself there ... I'd have hugged that dude.

In a non-queer, appreciative sort of way.
