Strange Problem?
So, I have actually taken my Z out and driven it a few times in the last week. Last night, I pulled away from a stop light and was giving it some pretty hard acceleration, just as I was about to shift into second gear the car "Shut off" very abruptly and jerked... which basically re-started the car. It was not cool. Almost like maybe an electrical interuption.
I have been noticing other little electrical gremlins lately too and I wonder if they are related. For a while now, my stereo would cut off and back on much like the car did under hard acceleration changes. Maybe a bad battery cable? I know my combo switch needs help because every time I turn on the headlights, the high beams come on. I have to flick the switch a few times to make them stay off, but sometimes they will randomly come on again while driving.
Every now and then, the clock doesn't light up but it keeps perfect time.
My "Door" indicator stay's lit up, but I can't figure out why. both the door switches appear to be working.
My biggest issue right now though is the weird thing it did last night. Need to do some investigating.
Anyone else had this problem?
Rod.

you live in escondildo, so you dont live near the water now, but have you had the z near the ocean ?????????
corrosion=corruption of circuit-----
we have salty air, mon---good luck with yours-------i hope it is easy--if so many things are affected, would not the problem be something more toward the source????? do the things happen at the samer time or different times?????-------is your electrical snap sound sharp or is it not so sharp any more-------it is probably just the connections.?????????(praying)

To answer both questions...
Yeah, everything went off at once. It was almost like the momentum of the car rolling forward in gear "bump started" it back to lfe. Like there was a brief electrical interuption. I don't think the combo switch problem and the sudden shut off are related, but you never know. I'm going to check out the battery and alternator/ground connections this weekend. The car runs like a raped ape though
My car never lived very close to the ocean either. It did spend a summer in Florida though where it rained every freaking day!

i would say your battery has a dead cell in it, and the plates touched together. if it does that too many times, it could lead to a fire or battery explosion. its either that or the cables are screwed. id say the battery. as for the rest, it could be the actual component problems.
Head light thing is common. Mine did it as well. I replace the head lamp sensor in the engine bay. and it stopped. Door thing i have also. I just took the light bulb out for that one. And i don't Ever have to take my high beams off. Cause there not bright enough. No one notices. they think it's on low.
I had a 79 awhile back that would just die all of a sudden. Turned out to be the alternator. I'd have to turn the key off and on and the car would run fine. May not be exactly what yours is doing but it might be worth getting the alternator checked out.

^ Yeah, I'm thinking it's a bad connection at the alternator. I'll be out there looking at it this weekend.

P.S.
Headlight sensor you say?
Donde esta es el "headlight sensor"?

Oh. and check the connection behind the igg. that blue connector is Not cliped in. if your feet catch a wire, it will loosin it up.

I have a bad feeling about this one. Since I haven't been driving the Z very much (It sometimes sits for 2-3 weeks) every cat in the neighborhood has made it their place to hang out. I'm wondering what other creatures have decided to call it home. I'm scared to open the hood! Tomorrow will be interesting. I'll keep you all posted.

Might have a furball in your intake. Its pretty common on these cars.
On a more serious note, I had the same problem in my POS 88 Maxima due to a bad battery clamp. Every now and then the car would just shut off in traffic. I had to pull over, wiggle the cable, and the car would start right up again.
