Stage 2 cam

I'm really considering the msa stage 2 cam I was wondering If any of you guys have installed one if you would need new rockers, lash pads , springs ect
Power goal: 300hp

Background on the engine would be nice. :D

You want a cam for your L28ET you are rebuilding? ( https://www.zdriver.com/forums/280zx...t-35459/page4/ ) Or for an n/a?

ohsemix 11-06-2013 02:32 PM

i would only invest in cams if i was staying N/A

putting a cam in the car with a stock ecu is a big problem. might as well get an aftermarket ecu first, get it running then work from there. stage 2 is a pretty small cam and wont get you to your power goals. you will need all new lash pads, rockers, and springs. you can get your stock rockers resurfaced to save some cost. to get your power goals n/a your really going to need more than just a cam and ecu, lots more go into that package. wanna do it with turbo it really isnt that hard.

Sorry for the turbo, and I read about getting it up to 275hp with the stock t3 I wanted a after market cam but if it's not worth the money then I'll just use the money to upgrade the turbo and also how much hp can the stock head bolts hold? Should I get some arp studs?

NismoPick 11-07-2013 10:13 PM

Turbo cams are different than n/a cams. Also, how much hp any engine component can hold is more dependent upon proper use and a/f ratio (fuel management). As Corky Bell said in Maximum Boost, head studs are an engineer's choice, while head bolts are an accountant's choice (proper build vs cost savings).

There are MANY things you can and should do to build a bullet proof motor... Do you have the funds? is the question...

Books you should read:

Yes I've spent quite a few dollars I will spend alittle more to get the engine right and I'm going to order those books on amazon

ARP head studs, MLS head gasket, MSnS running bigger injectors, an EBC running ~12psi boost, and an efficient IC will get you to a very reliable 250hp. You can also upgrade the turbo to a T3/T4 hybrid, or just get a bigger turbo (HX35 is a common upgrade) and go external wastegate. If you want to get a bit crazy, Methanol injection is a huge help too. Have you followed FricFrac's build? https://www.zdriver.com/forums/280zx...project-33149/

i just did a build on a customers car and the stock t3 at 13.5 psi maxed out everything in its being at 230rwhp. had 440cc injectors, boost referenced pressure reg and ms3, intercooler, walbro 255 pump. i built it with it being a fun street car with super quick spool. that said id like to see him upgrade the turbo one day to something with a 2.5" outlet so it matches everything else and at 14psi it will move lots more air and make way more power.

FricFrac 11-16-2013 07:48 PM

Actually for the record the build NismoPick is refering to is the same car Shady upgraded :)

On the topic of cams in a turbo car. The hot can to run up to about 400rwhp is an "A" grind from a NA L28 :). Doesn't get any cheaper/easier than that :)
