Seafoam
Seafoam
So I filled up the Z today and actually read the "uses" part of the can of seafoam I poured in with the gas. I've put it in the tank and inducted it into the engine, but it also said I could put it in the crankcase?
Has anyone ever done this before? And if so, what happened?

my father is a sales rep for seafoam. You can put it in the crankcase, but I would treat it like the ATF flush, drain a quart of oil just before oil change time, put in a quart of seafoam, run it for 30 minutes, then change the oil. It's great stuff. I feel it's best use is in the intake to clear carbon, in the gas is good if you have varnished up lines from old fuel. Like i ran straight seafoam through my Z's turbo injectors off the engine until the spray stream was even and wide before putting them on my engine.
haha ok. I ran some seafoam through the vacuum line to the brake system a few weeks ago and it turns out there's a leak in the exhaust manifold (I think the studs are rusted and falling apart). So seafoam can also be used to find exhaust leaks...
So we inducted about 8 oz at a time and ended up just about smoking out the neighborhood each time. It was bad. Someone actually thought we had a brush fire going. I don't think any of the previous owners ever cleaned out the engine. We ended up putting in a can a night for two nights and I drove the car until the smoking stopped every time. After the fourth 8 oz injection there was still a LOT of smoke. I feel like I should do more but is too much a bad thing?

I've done this with a gas/fuel injector cleaner mix. I took an old pump I had and put the feed line into a container mixed with gas/cleaner, then hooked the pump and an injector clip up to battery power and just blocked off the return line at the rail. Then you just one by one power the injectors, the gas has nowhere to go but through the injectors. I also just to test the spray pulled my rail from the engine, and just did the same thing, but kept the return line hooked up to the tank, so the new fresh gas was going into the tank, but I was able to check the injector spray pattern at the same time.
