RTV as exhaust/intake seal?

Will red RTV (silicone) hold as an intake/exhaust gasket?

I ask because the repair shop I took my 280zx to for a 4-bbl conversion ripped out my gasket and used RTV in its place.

These #$@%ers also forgot to mention the badly blown head-gasket. I drove 40 miles after the conversion (which took over a month) and found oil/coolant spewing out of cyl 1 onto my alternator. After looking closer it became blatantly obvious that the head gasket had been partially blown before I took it to them. (which explains why it had no oil when I went to pick it up from them)

Luckily for them I traded a 42in LCD television for the repair so there are no records on their end. The only reason for this is that my friend, who knows the owner, recommended them as being a great shop. (They had many high-end cars in there when I went in)

I'm just trying to get all the facts together before I go back and try to get something out of them with a guilt trip. (If only a couple swivel extensions for the head job)

PS. Stay clear of "Chix Performance" in Roswell, GA.

Were they in a hurry to get your car back to you or something, or just didn't want to take the time to get another gasket? IMO, there's just no excuse for that.

I used some of the copper filled stuff (can't remember the name, but it comes in a similar looking tube) on my header gasket, but I also have a gasket in there :P

Are you serious? thats horrible a shop would even consider using RTV to replace a major gasket like that. It probably wouldn't hold for even a week.

Hey look another person from Georgia

Thanks for the replies.

The owner probably just wanted a new TV for as little effort as he could possibly give.

They don't have a website online and have fake reviews posted in the places they have reviews. (noticed this a little too late)

Is this a southern business thing? It seems like every business in the south is out to get you and could give half a **** about customer service. My experiences up North (outside of GA/FL/NC) were very different but maybe just coincidental.

Awe! Next time you need work done on your S130, take it to Eddie at E. Radatz Motorsports in Kennesaw (770-926-6609). He's been a friend of mine for several years and has specialized in Zs for over 20 years. He will do you right. If you go there, please tell him Z Babe said Hello. I miss him.
