Replacing ignition on 81 turbo

Replacing ignition on 81 turbo
Does anyone have a recommendation on replacing the ignition module (transistor type on the coil). The car is a '81 zx turbo that just suddenly, and seems permanently, died. I suspect the trignition is the problem but Nissan wants a ton of money for one and you might know of a better unit.
The car was running well and just quit. I worked the harness, cleaned and sealed the connectors on the harness with dielectric grease and theres still no spark....just like a ex-wife.

I don't know that one was made. The turbo unit was contolled entirely by the ecu, so you can't use the Crane Ignition in it's place. I think you're probably just going to have to buy the OEM unit. If it's just the IM, you can get one for around $240 new. You could also try ebay. Unless someone else on here knows of something. The rest of the distributor is pretty much wear proof (internals) on the turbo ZX, so...

Yeah, its just to outlay 240 dollars for looks like a switching transistor.
I never opened one up...might be interesting if it is just a transistor I can find out its parameters and get one a whole lot cheaper.
I appreciate your help....been about 15 years since I cracked the hood on a Z

Well if it's a 82 or up, the link below has one for $112. That's a pretty good deal.
The link below has it. They're called Rock Auto. Just scroll down the drop menu in the center of the screen and click ignition, then control module. At the bottom it will then give you the price, prt#, etc...

Thank you for all the help!
jfairladyz saved me money and opened my eyes to the availability to aftermarket parts for my Z.
I'll post back when the part arrives and let you know of the results.
Thanks again....Paul
