R180 Limited Slip Assembly

Nismo Sports offers a LSD assembly for the R180. They retail at $900. Is it worth the purchase to have the warranty and direct swap? Or, would it be better to do the 300 LSD swap. Trying to weigh the pros and cons. Any and all info is welcome.

It was the first LSD I saw, Actually they offer an R200 for the Z31. Do all 280's have the 200 as stock. I have an '83 2+2 and haven't verified what is in it.

Base model 79's & 80's had the R180s, though they are few & far between. But yes, it would be a much better idea to just get a Z31T R200 LSD & swap it in. Usually can get them on ebay for $500 - $700, or if you're lucky, at a junk yard for $100.

Yup. Got the one for my 240 for $500 freshly rebuilt and installed. Of course, it's not actually IN yet...

I bought it off a guy that was swapping a NISMO R180 back into his 240z. The Z31T R200 LSD units only came in 3.7:1 gears and he wanted the 4:38's available in the NISMO R180.

I know it's been in the posts before, but, is it a major operation to do the swap?

All 2+2 and turbo cars came with the R-200 with CV axles. The R-180 came in the early 2-seater Z's as mentioned before. Everything else came with an R-200 with halfshafts. I'm pretty sure they make an LSD kit for the R-200 but it would be cheaper and easier to just swap in the 300ZX LSD.

Had some down time and was looking at the LSD possibilities for my ZX. It's getting put up for the winter soon so I was looking at possible upgrades to it while it's down. Is there any web refernces that give the years, models, and ratios that the R200 was available in?

try this bro: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/

The S30's (240z - 280z) had R180's, and the 79 - 80 280zx base models as well. All other 280zx's & Z31's had the R200, and the 87 - 89 Z31T's had the R200 LSD.... 88 SS had the viscous LSD, which has different cv connections.

Just slap a Ford 9" rear in there and get some 5.11 gears. That'll give you some 'GO' Of course you'll probably be cruising at 6000 RPM's at 50 mph in 5th gear

Please by all means realize that was a joke. Unless of course you're building a strip vehicle in which case you should probably take it seriously

Putting the Chevy engine is going to be bad enough. I'd feel really bad if I put a Ford rear end in too
Rod would probably never talk to me again if I did that much 'Blatant Basterdization'

As long as the mouse motor is lighter than that of the Zed, and has supercool valvecovers its not a bastardization. If you go w/ a torquey big inch chevy its a bastardization. Destroke a 400 to about 330 and put really long rods in it.
