mines the 94 amp. i just changed it and the problem never went away, so it has to be something making it go to full field. if i remove the wire going to the main alternator feed, the problem goes away. now keep in mind i did a maxi fuse upgrade with a ebay fuse holder with voltage readout. im thinking that it is shorting out on the alternator wire and making it go full voltage. help me!!! i need to get to msa!!!!!!!

so its fixed!! (crosses fingers) it turns out my crappy maxi fuse holder from ebay was partly to blame. it was causing some extra draw, 120 total amps!!! thats why the 80 was blowing. my car will draw 100 max. with everything, and i mean everything "on". its mostly because of all the extra eletrical stuff. fuel pump, msd, fans, radio, etc. that and its all old wiring, and old skool components. oh and a slightly dead battery from starting and stopping so often that coupla days.

Stock amperage from what I've been told over the years is 60 amps. I "Upgraded" to the later model Maxima alternator (direct swap) that is an 80 amp unit and it's worked out great. When I had the big amp and two subs in the hatch it never missed a beat. Now that I've removed all that stuff, I'm actually running almost too much amperage...

Doesn't an alt provide current based on the load? If the car is in need of 70A then the 105A alt provides 70A or does the alt always put out at 105A with the load just using what it needs?
