Manual and Auto ECU
G'day all.
Would someone mind helping me with an ECU problem.
My ECU from my 81zx (manual) has given up the ghost but I have a replacement. The replacement is from an 83zx automatic and thus has two complete rows of pins instead of the 81 manual ECU that has one complete row and one incomplete row. Are the extra pins in the 83 automatic nul and void as I do not need them for the manual, or is the whole board different? Can I use the 83 Automatic ECU in my 81 manual zed? The connectors fit fine but I did not want to power it up for fear of cooking something.
Thanks very much in advance for any help.
Scott.

I don't know for sure to answer your question. But, the auto does have the extra kick down switch under the throttle and it must read the rpms to know when to shift at max rpms. My guess would be that the extra pins are just null and lead to other sensors that your 5-speed 280ZX will not have. It should work fine. The computers themselves are very simple and unless you have other electrical problems I wouldn't think they would fry easily.

Thanks heaps BleachZee.
I hoped that would be the case. I read just about every thread in the Permormance/Technical section but could not find a thing. Learn't heaps though!
By the way, have you seen the ground effects kit on ebay right now? I'm in Oz so it would cost heaps to get here, but for anyone reading in America, it looks pretty cool.
Anyway, thanks again for the info and all the best.
