Just need to know
Hi everyone, Iv got to ask. Why is that the 280zx is the most least favored as the z cars go? I just cant see why everyone talkes down about them when speaking of the 240,260 and 280z. I personly like the zx more than the rest of the z cars. Im not trying to step on anybodys toes, I just dont understand. I had a 77 280z and loved it to death in all, But not as much as this zx. It has better body lines, power, comfort, and handling. Just let me know if im the only one that feels this way about the zx. Thanks for your time.

Id say that the Z31 is the bastard Z haha
The 280ZX is usually not favored over the S30 because its bigger, heavier and in general slower. That of course can be fixed
Personally I have a 73 240Z turbo and an 83 280ZX.
the S30 is my fav and my daily, its fast loud and harsh, like a full time race car (since it nearly is). the ZX is quiet, comfortable and I love the T-tops on a nice day. Its a good cruising car
but my 240 will run circles around it

Heh, I own the one looked down on the most, a 79, and I like it, better than the others. I will admit I do like the LOOK of the z31's better, but that's all. Far as being heavier and slower, according to everything I see on the net, my 79 is supposed to weigh 2825#, 50# less than a 78, and probably a 77 too. Now when I drive mine across the scales, it weighs 2680, and I've stripped nothing.(it's actually nose heavy, until I sit in it, then it's heavier in back.) Far as slow goes, I just can't believe that people think it's slow, it's nothing to write home about, but it's no slouch. It could be that it's tuned hotter now than it would be if it was set up right. I'm plenty happy with it, and NO DAMN TTOPS!
I kinda LIKE the idea of better brakes, bigger wheel wells, better aerodynamics, easier clutch, and I think they look better from the sides and back anyway.(mine has the tail light across the center area)
Another GOOD thing about them is NOBODY LIKES THEM, makes them price friendly..
Oh, on the slow can be fixed stuff, yep, just add about 1200 HP.

being as the s130 was my first actual z that i could drive on a daily basis, then driving a stock s30, then driving a turbo s30, now driving a v8 s30, i can honestly say the N/A s130 is a slow, poorly handling turd, the turbo s130, is a somewhat quicker poorly handling turd.

Poor handling? I thought it was pretty damn good compared to what I've had before. Mine handles turns beautifully, almost hugging the road. Sharp turning radius, good feel of the road(not all sensor controlled steering), and not too much play. You want sloppy steering, get yourself a 1990 Suburban. It was easy to turn, but really, too easy.
And as for quickness, I can't say much. In my opinion, it's pretty fast(and I've had luck racing mine), but then again look at my previous cars. a 1987 Cutlass Ciera--grandpa car. 1991 S10--built for hauling, not speed. 1990 Suburban--Sloppy steering, V8 350 was actually quick for an SUV, but still, comparatively, it was slow. Then a 1992 Dodge Dynasty--Grandma car. But it topped out at 110MPH and was pretty good with steering. Who knows what my 280ZX will top out at. As far as I'm concerned officer, I was doing 85, not 115!

no cops, no troppers, just idiots that drive really really slow and brake for every single corner regardless of speed. if someone says hwy 74 is boring or easy to drive, they must be an accomplished F1 driver or have never driven this section, this hwy is IMO better then any road course/auto-x track i have been too (except willow springs and california speedways road course) if i can devise a mount and manage to get some halfway decent tires on the bike, I'll shoot some video. its 5.2 miles from a-b at an 8% grade, with some massively banked corners, a mountain on one side and a 200-1k foot drop on the other, along with the random big horn sheep.

I see. So it handles like a turd, eh?
lol.
I wish I had something like THAT to road test on. I did when I lived in WV. Here, all I can do is take windy roads a bit fast, and maybe the ocassional 10MPH turn at, say, 50.

lol, I'm not getting sensitive, but I do get mad when I see people saying how they're Turbo converted S30 with Tokico Illumina's and Eibach springs was faster and handled better than the stock S130 they had 15 years ago...

Hehe, I think you had it right on the first pass, spaghetti, that about sums it up.

I was specifically comparing my two Z cars
(both of which are in my photo albums)

you will never get a deff answer because its all about personal preference. I dont care about the creature comforts, like heat, a/c, defrost, power steering, power windows, power mirrors, a spacious interior, ect.
I just like going fast and damn the rest, so I favour my turbo 240z
but when I do want to take a nice chill cruise with the t-tops off and the stereo going in comfort I take the 280zx,
It still has some get up and go and handles nicely, just not as scary fast as the 240z can be
