Help locating quality performance shops in DFW area
Does anyone on here know of any Z specific performance shops around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? If not Z specific, one that is knowledgeable about mods to Z's since my 83 280ZX n/a just isn't fast enough for me. I am not too technically minded about these awesome cars just yet. I would rather pay someone for their work, than screw up my new love. Am wanting to do either a turbo swap or go with a RB25DET swap. Thanks for any help guys!!

I'm having the same problem. I went with a friend to JoTech the other day (he's got a '00 Prelude) and they couldn't even reccomend a performance shop. Looks like we're outta luck here in Dallas.... for the time being.

Yeah, I had read about Jotech and was planning on going over there, but I thought they would not work on just anyone's Z, but they might at least be able to recommend somewhere. If someone has the knowledge and connections to open a shop here they could make a mint of money. I know tons of people wanting to mod their Z's that are like me, too afraid they will mess up their car to do it themselves. I suppose you are right, we are SOL.
Good luck with your Z though!!!

I've finally dicided to check out the Z Club of Texas (ZCOT). They meet every third Thursday of the month at Juan's Cantina in Richardson. If you want to go this month, let me know, I'll meet you there.
Someone has to have some info on some speed shops around here.....
Also I'm going to contact Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts. They're not all Z's, but there are some. (www.dne.org)

Yeah, I went ahead and joined them a couple months back, but have never gone to the meetings. Reason why, I emailed them to ask for a reference to a repair shop, and they sent me to Z Car World over in Irving. The guy was a total jerkoff and I think he stole parts off my car. And when I got home it overheated, which it never has done before, even on the 800 mile drive from buying it in Florida. Called him, and he basically cursed me out and started yelling, so I cancelled my check to him and wrote him a letter disputing the charges, and have not heard from him since. So I figure if that's what I can expect from them then screw it. I did find a guy over in Ft Worth called Rising Sun Performance or something, look on the Z club of Texas sponsor pages. He knows Zs inside and out, but he has a 4 month waiting list!!!

I found a shop, but I haven't checked it out yet... It's called Rising Sun Performance and it's in the Ft. Worth area.

My Z is there right now. The shop is big and clean and he has some really nice Zs there. But I think his prices are a little high. Plus, he is a stickler for stock Nissan parts, nothing aftermarket. I guess I'll find out when I pick up my car, huh? I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well, I got my car back. They seem like honest enough folks. All I had them do was a diagnostic check on it. They are major sticklers for Nissan OEM parts, nothing aftermarket at all. They believe the nissan factory parts are best for the car. Personally, I don't agree with them on that point. However, their shop is big and very clean and had lots of Z32s and a couple really early Zs that they were working on that looked really good. I think they are somewhat overpriced, the work they quoted for me was several hundred dollars over the quotes I got from the dealerships, like Courtesy and Bankston even before applying my Z club discount from the dealerships. He doesn't offer any discounts to Z club members. On the whole, he seems really knowledgeable and has been around for a long time and you have to consider sometimes you get what you pay for. Overall, I am undecided on whether or not I would have him work on my car. There is a repair shop over in Addison, All Star Japanese Engines and Auto Service. I am taking my Z there for a 2nd opinion. He only charges 70 bucks for a diagnosis, and Rising Sun cost me 112, and they still didn't tell me much about the condition of the engine, like compression and the like. So, hopefully this might help you out. I did find this All Star place on the web where people rated his business and mechanical knowledge, and his basic business practices. He got really good reviews and he seemed nice enough, so here is his number if you want it. He is off of Beltline and Midway in Addison.

I've heard about that shop. But, what I've heard is that he pushes his rebuilt motors and they aren't put together that well (oil pans falling off and the like...). I personally haven't been there to check him out.
Keep me posted!!
