Fuel Problem
 

I have an 81 that had a bad head temp sensor and I bypassed that to make the car run better. Problem is, it is still soaking the plugs with gas. Any suggestions?

If you bypassed it, how did you do that?
That sensor changes ohms to the fuel injection computer based on the engine temperature. If you are bypassing it, you should run it through an ohm meter (simple volume control) and adjust it down more. That should get it to lean out more.

Also, check your fuel pressure if possible. I think it should be in the 40psi range. If its too high, then replace the fuel presure regulator. You can get those online for about $30 or so.

I by-passed the sensor by shorting out the wires to the sensor. By doing this it did make the car stay running. Perhaps I need to check the sensor itself. I did check fuel pressure and it is at the recommended 38psi.

How are the injectors themselves? If the they are getting old, the pintle might not be closing all the way during the "down" time of the injector and that could be soaking your plugs.... Just a thought.

Because of the fact that you modified the temp sensor, I would look there first for your solution. Maybe just invest in a replacement from Nissan and hook it back up.

changing the sensor it helped mine, or you can put a potentiometer in and be able to control how rich or lean you run all the time. 1500 ohms 1.2K
