Engine won't rev
Engine won't rev
OK I got my 79 208ZX put together. I bought the car "some assembly required" (engine just sitting in the bay) and after many months off and on it is now to this point. After replacing the injector connectors and soaking the injectors in rubbing alcohol for a day they fire and the car starts. The only problem is it doesn't rev. With the pedal to the floor the engine is at about 1000 RPM. If you let off the throttle it stalls. I was thinking the linkage was some how on wrong. but with the throttle held open same thing. Any suggestions? I guess what I need to know is what tells the computer to give more fuel?

hey it may be your Throtel Position sensor tps it tells the computer where
the throtel is its on the driver side or the intake square box with plug on bottom it has 2 screws that you canadjust it a few degrees bask in forth
try that it sorta sounds like that also check for vacume leaks those
will make it run like garbage to
i usually thoot carb cleaner in before AFM whiler engine runs untill it
cuts off then let sit for few min then start up it cleans up intake and other crap
ok tired of typing hope that helps good luck
sorry my tyeing sucks

Check your AFM boots for any cracks, check you idle adjustment screw, make sure the vacume line to the distributer is on and working. you my not be getting any advance. Also check yoor fuel filter it might need to be changed, check all the vacume and feul lines. If you have air, spark and fuel. the car should run, if you have all those and cant rev then you might want to check timing advance, and the TPS, also check your injectors to see if they are putting out enough fuel. same with your fuel lines check the pressure there. What I do on the fuel lines is turn the car oon without starting it and squeeze the line if it is realtivly easy ti squeeze you have an issue. Remember this not scientific just preliminary, the other way is to remove the fuel line from the out of the filter, run it to a can or jar, then turn the car in the on position. if you get a good flow you should be OK.
Also check the AFM make sure the flap isnt stuck down.
I hope that is enough to keep you busy.
Good luck.
If it turns out to be the computer let me know I have on out of a 79ZX I will give you.
