engine not running
I went to start my 81ZX. I drove her about 1 week ago. This time she stated but ould only stay idle at abou 300 then she died and now wont fire at all. I dont know if it is the distributor or the CAT. She has spark, fuel and I am assuming air. The air filter is clean. She just cranks over and over. She acts like she is flooded, smell slike it also. I am going to pull the plugs to verify. Does anyone have any other ideas?
The reason I am thinking cat is she has been sluggish,Like she isnt breathing right. I had a Suzuki Samari with this same issue. I want to get her fixed because she is for sale and I dont want someone else to have this problem with her. Any help would be great.

If you can smell fuel and she never fires, then most likely it is a spark issue. Might as well look into that first.
Check your distributor cap. Make sure its clean and dry in there. Have someone help you check a spark plug by removing it and holding the edge against the engine. With the wire still plugged in, have someone crank the engine over. Keep yourself insulated and away from the spark plug for safety. You should be able to see a small spark if not in direct sunlight.
Maybe the coil went out? Disconnect the tube between the air filter and the Air Flow Meter. This will allow the engine to breath good for testing. Also, disconnect the tube on the end of the throttle body. Open up the throttle with your hand and spray a good amount of starting fluid in there. Stick the boot back on and then crank the engine. Even if you have a super weak spark, it should fire at least a couple times before it dies again.... or maybe it'll start.

Thank you I have to wait for the wind to die down it is blowing at about 60mph right now. I have checked the spark and replaced the coil. The spark looks weaker than on my 78Z. I have a used coil I found laying around in for test, I might pull the one out of the 78Z because I know it is good.
Thank you again for the help I will let you kow what i find out.
