Differential Type
How do you determine the type of differential your car has? I have a 1983 280ZX 2+2 with a 5 speed stick trane, but don't know what type of differential is in the car. Does it have anything to do with the vin number?

You never know if the differential is original.

Based on the information you gave, if it is the correct rear end in the car it is an R200 3.9 geared open differential.

Do the Turbo's have an open diff, I didnt think so, iv got a 83' turbo with manual tranny

Yes the 280zx TURBO has an open differential too.
