Cylinder head design

Hello All,

Does anyone out there know if Datsun/Nissan made a cross flow
cylinder head for the L-28 motor? Or is there a way to have some made. It seems like an ideal improvement. They made a crossflow racing head for the 260Z but only in small numbers.
Here is the link to prove it.

Any comments would be appreciated,

VernonZ

for the price your going to pay to get your hands on one of those LY motors or have a head built for the l28... you can get a RB26DETT... theres just no way your gonna get a hold of that head for your car... plus those heads were designed for racing... not for your typical everyday driver....

icice9,

You're right, but it just seems unfair that we're stuck with the side flow design. In the article that I posted he said that having the cross flow head alone was worth 10-15% increase in power.
Anyway after I began to see the RB motors that they put in the skylines it just seemed natural for Datsun to use these motors as the choice for the Z.

P.S. AWESOME 280ZX you have. When mine grows up it wants to be just like yours.

Os Giken has made a crossflow cylinder head but I don´t think it´s possible to find one of them anymore. They also made a twin-cam cylinder head, if you can get your hands on one of them you are one lucky z-owner

Oh ya, OS. Drool all you want, but don't ask how to find one. I'm sure there are people who have spent the last decade trying to locate one from Japan without any luck.

Its unfair that we have a SOHC engine? These engines were designed in 1968-69 for cryin' out loud!!! If you want a DOHC crossflow, then do an engine swap. You're dealing with a classic car now.

Ya, 145hp for a 2.8L sucks by todays standards. Get a good midrange cam in there and 10:1 compression like most late model cars and you'll be up in the 170hp range easily. Much better. The old L28 is what it is. Old technology but a good design anyway.

Somewhere on the internet. I think it might have been Zhome.com talking about the OS heads and how they are NLA and cost about 10,000 USD. I also have a pic of the same OS head on an L20b.

Ya, that's rediculous. I think there are people who know how to make custom heads from solid blocks of aluminum and would charge less than that.
