Clutch ?'s

Alright, I'm new to the Z cars, not new to cars, just Z cars. I just picked up my first one out of a barn (82 280ZX). Decent car, needs clutch, paint and other normal Z stuff according to you guys and gals. But when I went to buy the clutch, I found that the 2+2's clutch was an inch or so bigger. The real Question is why is the 2+2 clutch bigger and can it be used in the regular 280 ZX??? Also, If you have any suggestions about what kind of clutch to use. I do plan on hitting the gas plenty and eventually adding some horsepower. Is there a better than standard clutch out there for a decent price?

please move your thread to an appropriate forum. The 2+2 clutch is larger because the car is larger, so therefore the clutch has a larger mating surface so the chance of slippage is reduced.

You can use the 2+2 (turbo) clutch. That larger cluch is 240mm wide contact surface. The non-turbo 2-seater is 225mm. You must use a flywheel from a 2+2 though. The turbo and non-turbo 2+2 used this setup as well as the 2-seater turbo. Only the 2-seater non-turbo had the smaller clutch.

That is a good cheap upgrade for your clutch if you're putting out more power. But, honestly it is not nessisary if you're staying non-turbo. A few bolt-ons and maybe some porting is not going to be causing your clutch to slip.
