backfires while driving

I have an issue while driving my 83 Turbo 280ZX, it will run great, starts great but out of the blue it will start to die while cruzing or excellerating. when I tire to keep it running I have to pump and get on the trottle.
I changed fuel pump, injectors, fuel press regulator, Air flow Meter... all with no help. I'm tired of putting more money into it, but will take it to a local shop for help if I can't find anything out here. All your help is greatly appreciated and I can fix almost anything myself with some help! thanks again. Kenny G

From the top of my head while it would be backfiring..bad distributor cap, bad spark plugs, bad timing,plugs..mmmm I'd check the plugs first.

Sounds like the start of either the ignition module going bad, or the coil. Check those out if you haven't yet.

Also check all sensor connections for corrosion (TPS, AFM, CHTS). And check your ecu plugs.

I spent about a year racking my brain on why my 280zxt would "miss", "studder", and sometimes just "go wacky". Come to find out the 2 ground wires on the bottom most ecu plug were faulty. Those 2 grounds are the grounds for all the major EFI sensors, so the whole system was going wacky, then back to normal when those wires moved. I ended up cutting that whole plug out, redoing the grounds, and splicing in a Z31 ecu connector.

I've got a thread about that... it's called "The Bitter End".
