advice on used turbo engine

Hi all
I had previously asked this question within the body of a comment in another thread. seems to have gotten lost in the mix somehow...appreciate your inputs, here goes, once again...

have a line on a 1983 turbo engine, am due to go check it out this weekend. it has been pulled already and according to the seller, it ran when he pulled it but believes it has a blown head gasket.

looking for pointers on what to watchout for etc? plus all associated Turbo engine parts I should make sure are attached to the deal if the engine is still good to go...and what of the price??

appreciate some replys prior to Sunday Feb 20 if it can be helped.
thanks a bunch

I am a little late to comment as I have just joined. How did it go anyway? Hopefully you got the harness, ecu and the fuel pump and fuel pump control box. The down pipe and the air cleaner box also, mind you, if you have a NA ZX then it doesn't matter. But FYI, the turbo air box breathes from both fenders. The oil cooler is another important part. Was it on an auto tranny? If you were lucky enough to get it from a 5 spd car then you will have the big turbo flywheel. The NA flywheel is 210 or 215mm and the T flywheel is 225mm I think. Is your 2+2 NA? You will have some wire work ahead of you. I spent a week or more drawing retrofit wiring diagrams to mate the turbo engine harness to the 79 ZX electrical system. I hope I am interpreting your post correctly and that you are planning to put a turbo engine into a non turbo ZX. If not, then this reply was all for naught. If so, have fun. It will be worth the effort.

I just found the accurate specs on flywheel diameters form some better informed ZX enthusiasts than me.

280ZXT and 2+2 models have the big flywheel at 240mm. The NA 2 seaters had a 215mm flywheel.

Hey thanks your help is much appreciated. better late then never.

I did get the engine afterall cause the guy was moving to Squamish the next day and I didn't feel like driving up there to pick it up. seems it went well for me though.

I have the turbo engine with the dizzy, the ecu box, the down pipe and the wiring harness. unfortunately thats where the parts list ends. i dont have any of the air intake parts, like the turbo afm etc. it did come off a manual tranny so it has the turbo flywheel. i will be doing a rebuild on it even though he said it ran good other then the leaking head gasket. no leaks apparent on the outside though so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

i got it for $350 with an engine stand included in the deal . In the end I hope I made the right choice.
