'82 temporarily loading up...

just recently bought an '82 ZX. I drove it today for its first real outing. On my way home from work, I stopped at the inspection station. I was out of the car about 10 minutes, enough for a good heat soak. When it was restarted, it was loading up, black smoke coming out the exhaust and missing. I had to move the car, and a couple minutes moved it again, still the same. When I was finally ready to leave, about anohter 5 minutes, it was still loading up, maybe not quite as bad. When I pulled out, it bucked badly, popped and then cleared up. I made several more stops along the way and no problems. I am very familiar with newer american fuel injection, but htis is my first dealings with first general computer controlled FI. I have done some work with older mechanical injection, but anyway. Any ideas? Sound familar to anyone?

Yeah, that happened to me once awhile back. It never happened again, so I don't really have a solution for you.

I chased that demon for a long time. turned out to be a combination of a weak fuel pump and a bad Air Flow Meter (AFM). try doing the rebuild procedure spelled out by JfariladyZ in the "AFM rebuild" thread here in the tech section and see if that helps.

Rod.
