82 ecu into a 79

well the other day i was looking to put my spare 1982 ecu into my 79. mostly due to the fact it reads the o2 sensor and is a bit of an upgrade compared to what i have. i will get mega squirt eventually, but was looking for something. i was wondering if anyone has tried it. when i was reading the wiring diagrams the only part that is gonna suck is where the harness goes to the pass side and has a 4 blade connector. those wire control some important things. like the fuel pump relay and some other stuff ive been trying to follow. can any one figure out what i can do to make that connector work? i got the fuseable link thing figured. the other one goes to some altitude switch ive never seen, its the other one. im also gonna look around on hybridz too, but who knows

I searched around on HybridZ but couldnt find any info on doing anything like that. So I am guessing no one has really done it before? I know it is an upgrade but would it be worth the hassle? You would know better then me though. Good luck if you decide to do it.

Sorry I couldnt help

Eh... forget about the stock connector. Just cut that out & wire up the wires where they need to go. I'm looking at the N/A EFI harness on Haynes page 251... looks purdy good! Do it! Do it!

well thats what i am proposing. the connector is the same, except on the 79 there are 3 wires in the 4 pack. yet the 82 uses 4 wires in the connector. so also where the heck is the altitude switch, i cant seem to find it. i dont even recall it on the 82 parts cars ive dismantled. trust me its gonna be worth the hassle. the o2 will read the engine and lean up my lower rpm range. right now im running lean above 4500. if i fix that its rich like crazy down low. losing battle on a 79.

The altitude switch:

It's located on the 82-83 n/a's under the drivers side dash. It's bolted to the dash cross brace.
