'81 280zx turbo, any comments/suggestions?
Ok i purchased a 280zx turbo a while back and it was in terrible condition when i bought it(the gal before me seriously mistreated or something). nonetheless im strapped for cash but im working my way up and over the past couple years i have been doing work to slowly revive my Z(which might i add are quite the head turners). it has 340k miles on it but has been rebuilt ~30k ago.
now im lookin to SERIOUSLY mod this car up. As it stands with everything stock, i kick a lotta asses with it(**** RICE BURNERS!!), but still not the level at which i am satisfied. right now i could give a flyin **** less about my interior/exterior right now(way i see it, shitty engine+good looks=shitty car) and i have a lotta plans for this one. i disconnected my a/c (like i really need it, window works fine). Ive seen chevy 350s in these but **** that v8 bullshit, a straight 6 modded up is almost as good as a small block v8 modded. im keepin it 6.
now ive seen twin turbo mods which im considering as well as a blower(which with a lil more work would be pretty awesome) but i think im goin with TTs. now my car only has an auto tranny(which is why im kinda surprised at the performance i get) but i plan on changing to a 6 speed man. i was thinking about getting fabricated dual 3.5" exhaust for when i get the TTs. i also planned on getting a performance cam, as well as a new cooling system.
I do have the stock rims with that powdered aluminum look and they look really good!(chrome sucks, too expensive and doesnt last for ****). my car has the original blue w/ silver hood and tones. i was thinking of going with an all black with silver tones. my car does have a t-bar roof which is really awesome. thats about all for now...
i understand im looking at about $5000+ for which i plan on doing all this within a year or so, then after all is said and done moving on to my interior/exterior(which in the condition its in will prolly be another $5k.
if anyone has any comments or suggestion they are very much welcomed..

Well, you said you wanted twin turbos and a six speed ... you could swap the RB26DETT engine from a GTR Skyline as well as the trans (can the AWD trans be converted to RWD?). You'd be stuck with a 5-speed if you didn't get the GTR tranny, but I'm assuming there are 6-speed Getrag sequential trannies for the RWD Skylines. The engine and fabrication will probably run you around $5k, but for an RB and the subsequent tuning, it sounds like its worth every penny.
I had thought about an RB swap into my Z (possibly even my Volvo, there's enough room for one), and from what I've researched, if you're going for big power numbers and still want to keep it Nissan / straight 6, that's the way to go.

That was an issue with nissan/datsun is that they made the Z's really badass but never seemed to make a 6-speed manual for them(too costly?). i dunno..i may just end up with a high performance 5 spd which is all good in its own sense, an extra gear just helps with ratios but if i can use my auto by going thru each gear, rather than just stickin it in drive(i like to go through my gears where it should go, not where it automatically goes because in rapid acceleration it will shift from 1st to 2nd when i let off the gas slightly to release the turbo switch(so as not too run my 1st up to 4+ rpm then letting it auto-shift) and then itll shift 2nd to 3rd in like a matter of a second). interesting design, but i put it in 1st and then manually upshift to 2nd and then in drive for 3rd..i do accelerate faster, and i guess thats how i manage to beat these rice burners with only 3 gears...(god why do people use that ****??? those exhausts only hurt your engine! *and it sounds like the car is farting* .......dumbasses...).
on another note, i like the L28ET engines, ive seen instances of them pulling 11-12s quarters. i think those results are pretty ****ing impressive givin the cars weight, even with all the newer aluminum ****(only thing aluminum i will get is an intake manifold, radiator and other various small items; aluminum heads and blocks go too easily, and dont last as long especially under harsh conditions,
